Green Island Ardleigh NGS

We visited on their NGS Open Gardens day, Sunday the 6th May 2019. We had a very enjoyable visit once we arrived. There is a lot of road works on the route when using a GPS so it would be wise to have a read of their website before you start out. Here

NGS Open Gardens website can be found here

“A garden for all seasons' A plantsman's paradise with 20 acres packed with rare and unusual plants. Sculptures at Barnards Farm

Barnards Farm Gardens Website see here.
Home to the National Collection of Malus.

This is another one of the NGS open gardens. All of the entry fees are donated to charity and good causes via the NGS.

This is a superb garden with a number of interests which demands more than one visit, there is so much to do and see.

On this, my first visit I concentrated on the sculptures that are on permeant display throughout the 22 hectares of gardens & woodlands. There are over eighty different pieces on show, some of them are truly spectacular, like the cube.

There is a miniature ¼ scale railway that runs on Thursdays during the school holidays. There is a very interesting collection of vintage cars which are displayed and driven on Sundays. There is also a cycle museum.

There is an airstrip so, if you are a pilot you can land and park up to enjoy the gardens. Strictly PPO.

There is so much for all the family, a great day out and I highly recommend it. I shall return.

“the Sitooterie Thomas Heatherwick” This is a light installation and I was told that it is spectacular at around sunset and at night. You can see some night-time shots here.
