The Flitch Way is about fifteen miles long, it runs from Braintree station to Start Hill near Bishops Stortford. Back in the day it was connected to the main line at Stortford and ran to London. The Operators, Great Eastern Railways opened the line in 1869 The last passengers were on the 1st of March 1952 it continued running freight until the end of 1971.
It is now used as a safe traffic free environment for walkers, cyclists and horse riders and forms part of National Cycle Network Route 16.
