The weather forecast looked ideal today for a run out to Mersea Island and another go at Kitesurfing, unfortunately the forecast was wrong. Having arrived in time for the high tide the wind dropped off, however I managed to take a few shots before the surfers stopped for the day.

West Mersea
With a very windy but dry forecast I decided to take a run over to the Island of West Mersea to try and get a few shots of the wind and kite surfers. The high tide at 11:30 meant that I had to plan for an afternoon trip. The wind direction along with the falling tide kept the wind surfers out too far, they have a deeper draft because of their keel so most of my shots were confined to the Kite surfers.

Bishop's Stortford CC County Match
If you look at the shot above and see the distance of the ball from the wicket, note the bails are just beginning to lift even though the ball has already passed through the wicket. Now look at the shot below taken less than one second later, see the bails flying but no ball to be seen. The un-cropped image almost reaches the boundary and the ball is nowhere to be seen. For the cynics I have not interfered with the ball or the bails in Photoshop, these are both genuine shots. However I have made some minor adjustments to the rest of the image.

Hockerill Cricket Club Bishops Stortford
I spent the afternoon at the Hockerill CC. I intend to pay several visits this summer, if we ever get one. Today was by way of an initial visit to get the feel of the ground. The weather was bright but lightly overcast.

Audley End Cavaliers
I paid a visit to the English-Heritage Cavalier event held at Audley End. I find that the participants in a re-enactment days are very willing to cooperate with us photographers. Here are a few of the shots from the day.

Mid Suffolk Light Railway
I visited the Mid Suffolk Light Railway, Brockford Station museum today. The weather was bright and made a change from yesterday’s very wet conditions. I had a very good day at this very friendly heritage railway.
They were having an event weekend with the theme based on the old black & white Ealing comedy called the Titfield Thunderbolt. They had a steam train along with a steam roller and a coach that were from the same period putting on a show.
