Ickworth House. 95th Rifles Battle of Waterloo 2018

Today, Ickworth House hosted the re-enactment of the Battle of Waterloo. This event had been rescheduled from earlier this year, it had been cancelled due to poor weather. Once again, the weather this weekend has been pretty dreadful. The 95th Rifles Regiment of Foot's re-enactors arrived and pitched their tents on Friday evening, since then it has rained on and off, the temperature has dropped like a stone, so by the time I arrived on Sunday afternoon all the actors had coped well with the muddy, damp and cold conditions. The culmination of the weekend was with the re-enactment of the battle of Waterloo to the delight of the crowd.

I took a number of shots of this same group back in 2016 in much better weather conditions. They can be seen here.

Trying to avoid inappropriate backgrounds at period events is a must for all photography, making sure that nothing creeps into the picture that spoils the period of the re-enactment. However, this woman was so keen to get away, who could blame her with the weather closing in, I failed to see the ignition key in her hand.

Bluebells at Quendon Woods

The weather was bright but blowy this morning so I returned to Quendon to see how this years bluebells are coming along. Sure enough they had fully matured since my visit last Friday. The wind made it almost imposable to do any real closeup shots and very difficult with any slow speed shots.
